Hoobiyee, the Nisga'a New Year is upon us, once again taking place at the PNE Forum in Hastings Sunrise. Spanning over two days; Feb. 28 and 29, it is a celebration of culture through stories, song and dance.

The Nisga'a Nation is a First Nations group form the Nass Valley in British Columbia. With over 1500 members currently residing across Vancouver Island and Vancouver, the Nisga’a Ts’amiks (Vancouver) community involves Nisga’a individuals and their families (non-Nisga’a and Nisga’a alike).  Check out the exhibitors and vendors at the event. Artisans and small business vendors will be selling items made locally, or in collaboration with First Nations artists. Hoobiyee Ambassadors are also welcome to apply with Nisga'a Ts'amiks Society for this years celebration. Ambassadors and volunteers are responsible for ensuring the surroundings and spectators are respected and protected through the duration of the event. Requirements for volunteer positions include that you must be 19 years of age or older. Limited postions are available. If you have attended Hoobiyee in past years, or hold a valid first aid certification, you are encouraged to apply. Please be advised that this celebration is an alcohol and drug free event. If you would like more information about the event, including an option to download and submit applications, please visit Nisga'a Ts'amiks Societys' website at www.tsamiks.com. Alternatively you may give them a call at 604.646.4944.
