The Canadian Men's Volleyball team is going to the Summer Olympics in 2020 after a 3-day qualifier hosted at the Pacific Coliseum at the PNE. If you attended on Saturday, you would have seen the coin toss that started off the match.

Students and individuals from various neighbourhood houses and schools throughout the riding received a visit from staff at the Vancouver-Hastings office last week. Over 300 passes were given out to high school volleyball teams and community groups to encourage the ridings young and aspiring athletes.

Along with Canada, Puerto Rico, Cuba and Mexico were all vying for a spot in the 2020 Olympic games. The Canadian team did very well at the NORCECA qualifying tournament at the Pacific Coliseum in Vancouver on Sunday to advance, completing the tournament undefeated.

The Canadian women's team were at an Olympic qualifying tournament in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic while the men's teams were playing here in Vancouver.

The NORCECA Men's Volleyball Championship is the official competition for senior men's national volleyball teams of North America, Central America and the Caribbean, organized by the North, Central America and Caribbean Volleyball Confederation (NORCECA). Since its introduction in 1969 the tournaments have been awarded every two years.

Multiple Canadian teams have now qualified for the Summer Games - men's and women's rugby sevens, women's softball, men's field hockey and women's water polo.

You'll be able to cheer on our national athletes when they play at the 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games from July 25 to August 9 later this year.
