June Newsletter

June 25, 2019

Until the end of the month you can have your say on what issues are affecting you and your family, what you think would make B.C. a better place to live, and what you think government priorities should be in 2020.

Budget consultation is now open to the public with a deadline to submit your ideas set for 5 p.m., June 28th, 2019. Your ideas will inform the recommendations The Select Standing Committee on Finance and Government Services makes for the next provincial budget. Made up of 7 MLA’s from government and the official opposition, the committee is mandated by the Budget Transparency and Accountability Act to hold consultations and report on the results. Key areas that are considered include health, education, economic development, environment, housing, social services and public safety.

Participating in the process of consultations means expressing how you think government should be spending your tax dollars.

Taking a look at the Budget 2020 Consultation Paper will give you an idea of what questions might need your answers! Accessibility is important, that is why there are many ways to exercise your opinion.

The Committee holds public hearings throughout the province to meet with individuals and organizations in person or via teleconference.

Registration is open. To register and reserve a time to speak with the Committee, call the Parliamentary Committees Office at 250-356-2933 (or toll-free in BC at 1-877-428-8337).

You may choose to provide comments in written, audio or video format through the online consultation portal.

To stay up to date on the consultation keep an eye on the website, Twitter and Facebook.

You may also email FinanceComittee@leg.bc.ca to be added to the email distribution list and receive email notifications.

Budget 2019 saw that Committee Members heard 267 presentations at 14 public hearings in communities across the province, and received 253 written submissions and 473 online survey responses during the consultation period.
