For nearly 50 years REACH has been providing East Vancouver with community health in community hands.

With a belief that good health is a state of physical, mental and social well-being, REACH has successfully hosted a myriad of health and social services under one roof.

In conjunction with Vancouver Coastal Health, Providence Health Care, the Vancouver Division of Family Practice and the Province, REACH is now set to open a new UPCC; an Urgent and Primary Care Centre.

The announcement highlights the second such facility for Vancouver after City Centre UPCC, and the ninth to be announced across the province.

Focusing on East Vancouver residents, the centre will provide care for non-life-threatening health concerns that urgently require same-day treatment.

With the most urgent patients seen and cared for first, examples of  injuries and illnesses to be treated at the new UPCC include sprains and strains; cuts or skin    conditions; high fever; infections; asthma attacks; new/worsening pain; dehydration and less serious child illness and injuries.

The new UPCC will take a phased approach in opening. The first phase will see some UPCC services opened at the REACH Community Health Centre building at 1145 Commercial Drive in August.

The final phase will see the fully operational UPCC open to the public at the REACH site in October 2019.

With close proximity to public transportation routes, as well as labs and pharmacies, collaborative service will be made easier.

“The Reach centre will help connect more people in East Vancouver and the surrounding communities with the health care they need, when they need it,” said Premier John Horgan. “For people who have been struggling to access health care services, this will make a big difference in their lives.”
